Captain Jack Captures the “Anterprise” at Fire Ant Festival

Grand Champion- Captain Jack’s Freedom BBQ Team

Ashburn, GA — The Fire Ant Festival in Ashburn comes up with a new & unique theme each year. For 2017, it was a Star Trek theme. The Grand Champion recevied $2500 and a unique “Starship Anterprise” trophy complete with lights, phasers & photo torpedoes. Captain Jack’s Freedom BBQ Team, Jack & Sandi Fallin, captured their first Grand they “beamed up” the best entry of the finals rounds in Ribs.

Reserve Champion – Southern Hogs

Matt & Donna Sapp of Southern Hogs just missed making finals twice. Once on a tiebreaker. However, the 4th place finishes in Loin and Ribs lead to the best overall score and the Reserve Grand Champion.

92 BBQ/Assassin Smokers 600 Ribs Score

The field of 35 on the top teams from Georgia and north Florida delivered awesome”Que” to the judges tables. There were two perfect 600 scores recorded in the preliminary rounds. Hootie Q, Sandy Autry, hit the perfect mark in Loin while Brad Sweet of 92 BBQ/Assassin Smokers did it in Ribs. Off the Chain BBQ made finals in both Loin & Pulled Pork.

1st Place Pulled Pork – Off the Chain BBQ

Rescue Smokers, Pitmaster Robby Royal, topped the Loin category. Hootie Q came in 2nd place and Off the Chain took 3rd place. In Pulled Pork, it was Chuck & Carrie East of Off the Chain BBQ for the win. Weekend Warriors BBQ was the runner-up and Bite My Butt BBQ finished third. Following Captain Jack’s Freedom BBQ Team in Ribs was 92 BBQ/Assassin Smokers in 2nd and Carter Q in 3rd place.

Once again the Ashburn Chamber of Commerce delivered a top notch festival surrounding the BBQ competition. Thousands of visitors enjoyed the entertainment, carnival, vendors and fireworks show.

92 BBQ/Assassin Smokers Hits Perfection at Walton Co EMC BBQ Festival

Grand Champion – 92 BBQ/Assassin Smokers

Monroe, GA — Brad Sweet and 92 BBQ/Assassin Smokers nailed a perfect 600 score in the Ribs finals round to take the Grand Championship at the Walton Co EMC BBQ Festival. Since the revised finals round scoring system went into effect a couple years ago, Sweet is the first pitmaster to record a perfect score in finals.

Reserve Grand Champion – Holy Smokes

Holy Smokes, Gary Lanton, continued their hot streak as they made finals in Pulled Pork; placed 4th in Ribs and 10th in Loin to capture the Reserve Grand Championship award.

First Place Loin – Rescue Smokers

First Place Pulled Pork – Raging Smoke BBQ

Robby Royal and Rescue Smokers was tops in the Loin category. Bubba Grills came in 2nd and Wright on Q took 3rd place. In Pulled Pork, Raging Smoke BBQ with pitmaster Jerry Buchans, took first place in Pulled Pork. Holy Smokes was the runner-up with McQue taking third. 92 BBQ/Assassin Smokers perfect Ribs lead the way in that category. Rescue Smokers had another strong event in taking 2nd place and Swineholio got the 3rd place Rib call.

The GBA had another great experience with the Walton Co Festival and would like to thank all the event sponsors and event coordinators for their excellent work.

Real South BBQ Takes Grand over Tough Field at Moultrie Moose Lodge BBQ Cook-Off

Moultrie, Dec 3,2016: Twenty two of the top GBA teams, including the top 5 in the Team of the Year chase. gathered at the Moose Lodge for the last contest of the 2016 calendar year. It was a tight contest as only 0.5 of a point decided the Grand Championship and less than a point separated the top two teams for the Reserve Grand Championship.

First Place Pulled Pork – Fat Boys of Tenneson Nissan

Tim Coleman & team Real South BBQ had the top entry in the finals rounds with Ribs to win the Grand Championship. Robby Royal continued his hot streak on the GBA circuit by winning the Reserve Grand Championship.

600 Score – Just Blowing Smoke

Rescue Smokers & Just Blowing Smoke finished 1-2 in the Loin final round after both recorded a perfect 600 score in the preliminary round. Smokin’ AJs took 3rd place. Fat Boys of Tenneson Nissan, Pitmaster Randy Meadows, took top honors in Pulled Pork. Holy Smokes took 2nd with Southern Hogs taking 3rd place. The Grand Championship Ribs of Real South BBQ won the category. Smokin’ AJs was the runner-up and Southern Hogs again claimed 3rd place.

In the Cooking for Fun contest; Nuts & Butts BBQ won both Chicken & Pulled Pork while Big Butts BBQ won Ribs.

The GBA will take a break for the holidays before staring off 2017 on Feb 24-25 in Vienna for Dilly Dally in Dooley. The GBA salutes the Moultrie Moose Lodge for their hospitality and hosting another great contest.

Smokin’ the Good Stuff Wins With Loin at Smokin’ Pork N Butts

It was a tough field of 23 teams assembled in Jackson for the new November edition of Smokin’ Pork N Butts. At the end, it was Gary Godfrey and Smokin’ the Good Stuff scoring a 599.4 out of a possible 600 in Loin Finals to claim the Grand Championship.

Reserve Champion – QueNut

QueNut, Pitmaster Alvin Meyer, made finals in Loin & Ribs alon with 4th place call in Pulled Pork won the Reserve Grand Champion award.

Brisket Winner – 4K BBQ

Smokin’ the Good Stuff and We Want Que both scored perfect 600 scores in the Loin preliminary round. It was Smokin’ the Good Stuff taking first in finals over We Want Que. QueNut took 3rd place. Rescue Smokers took top honors in Pulled Pork. Southern Hogs grabbed 2nd place with Smokin’ the Good Stuff in 3rd place. QueNut won the Ribs category. Southern Hogs was again the runner up. Hold Your Horses walked in the 3rd place. In the Brisket ancillary, 4K BBQ won the winner take all contest with a perfect 600 score.

The teams all enjoyed to move to fall from the traditional, rain filled spring dates. Hats off to Wayne & Connie Rosser for another outstanding contest.

Rescue Smokers Takes Grand in Dallas

The Georgia Barbecue Association (GBA) joined with the City of Dallas for their 2016 City Fest. It was a day filled with many different events. The professional BBQ competition was a huge part of the event. Robby Royal of Rescue Smokers continued to set the pace with a final round score of 597.5 out of a possible 600 in Pulled Pork to winning the Grand Championship.

Grand Champion – Rescue Smokers

Bird Dawg BBQ, led by Chris Cochran, made finals on both Loin & Pulled Pork along with a 5th place finish in Ribs to claim the Reserve Grand Championship.

In the preliminary round of Pulled Pork both Just Blowing Smoke and Bird Dawg BBQ score perfect 600 scores.

1st Place Loin – Smokin the Good Stuff

In Loin, Smoking the Good Stuff took top honors. Rescue Smokers took 2nd place and Bird Dawg BBQ took third. Fifth place went to We Want Que with 6th place going to Just Blowing Smoke. Four Fathers BBQ claimed 7th place. Southern Hogs claimed 8th place. Ninth place belonged to Simply Q and Where There’s Smoke rounded out the top 10.

Rescue Smokers won the Pulled Pork category with Just Blowing Smoke as the runner-up. In 3rd place again was Bird Dawg BBQ. Smokin’ the Good Stuff grabbed 4th place and CJ’s BBQ grabbed 5th. Major Q got the 6th place call followed by Rub Shakers Que in 7th and Swineholio in 8th place. Ninth & 10th went to Four Fathers BBQ and Southern Hogs, respectively.

Major Q walked last in Ribs with We Want Que taking 2nd and Rub Shakers Que taking 3rd. Smokin the Good Stuff got another call for 4th place. Bird Dawg BBQ came in 5th. Johnson Boys BBQ took 6th place and Rescue Smokers took 7th. Just Blowing Smoke finished 8th; Smokin’ J’s BBQ finished 9th and Swineholio finished 10th.

The GBA was proud to be a part of this great festival and looks forward to returning for 2016.
