The GBA presents awards to the top 10 teams for each contest year, as well as awards for the top finishers in each primary meat category. The awards are given as follow:
Overall Awards
- The first place team receives a substantial cash award and a personalized banner with their team name (and bragging rights forever!).
- 2nd through 5th place teams receive a cash award and a personalized banner with their team name and placement.
- 6th through 10th place teams receive a personalized banner with their team name.
Loin, Pork, and Rib Category Awards
- The first place teams receives a cash award and a personalized banner with their team name and placement.
- 2nd through 5th place teams in each category are also recognized at the annual award ceremony.
How to earn Team of the Year Points
You can earn Team of the Year points by entering a Contest, placing in the top 10 in the primary categories, and winning Grand or Reserve Champion. Points are awarded as follows:
- Ten (10) points for entering a GBA sanctioned contest.
- Placement points for finishing in the top 10 in the Pork, Loin, and Rib categories. 1st place earns 10 points, 2nd place earns 9 points, 3rd place earns 8 points and so on through 10th place, which earns 1 point.
- Five (5) bonus points are awarded to the team winning the Reserve Grand Championship.
- Five (5) bonus points are awarded to the team winning the Grand Championship.
Double Points Contests
Each year the GBA selects several contests to be double points events. At those events, teams earn double the points they would at a standard GBA event. The events chosen to award double points vary from year to year, and are indicated on the Contest page.
Awards and Banquet
The GBA holds an annual banquet where the Team of the Year is recognized as the team with the most points accumulated throughout the year. The GBA also awards banners and cash prizes to the Top 5 teams, and banners to the 6th through 10th place teams from the just completed contest year. In addition, the GBA awards a Team of the Year banner to the top team in each of the 3 categories. Recognition is also given to the 2nd through 5th place teams in each category.
Team of the Year Ties
In the event of a tie for any final Team of the Year position, all tied teams will be recognized at the higher tied position, with any tied awards combined and then divided equally. The lower tied positions will be left vacant. Just like in golf, if there is a three way tie for 5th place overall, all three teams will be recognized as finishing in 5th place. The awards for 5th, 6th, and 7th places will be added together and divided equally among the three tied teams. No 6th or 7th place will be awarded and the next highest team will recognized and rewarded as the 8th place team.
The GBA Board of Directors reserve the right to modify the structure and recognition of these awards as needed.
