Rescue Smokers Takes the Belt at Canton

Grand Champion – Rescue Smokers

Canton – Rescue Smokers not only won the Grand Championship at the Canton BBQ & Brews festival, they also captured the BBQ & Brews Championship Belt. It was Robby & Stephanie Royal’s Loin entry that topped the finals round for the Grand Championship. The belt was awarded to the highest cumulative scores from the 4 BBQ & Brews events. Rescue Smokers edged out Smokin’ the Good Stuff by 0.9 of a point. Smokin’ the Good Stuff made finals in Loin and had 6th place finishes in both Pork & Ribs to take the Reserve Grand Championship.

Rescue Smokers Flies High in Warner Robins

Grand Champion – Rescue Smokers

Warner Robins — Rescue Smokers, Robby & Stephanie Royal, won the Grand Championship at the first Robins Flying High BBQ Festival. Chuck & Carrie East, of Off the Chain BBQ, made finals in Loin & Pulled Pork along with a 4th place finish in Ribs to take the Reserve Grand Championship. Off The Chain also had a perfect 600 score in Loin preliminaries. Smoking the Good Stuff won the Loin category. Southern Hogs won the Ribs category.

Weekend Warriors Take Grand at Dilly Dally in Dooly

Vienna, GA – Dennis Morris of Weekend Warriors took the Grand Championship at Dilly Dally in Dooly. Their winning Rib entry was the highest scoring in the finals round to take the top prize.

Holy Smokes Wins Grand at Smoke on the Water

Grand Champion – Holy Smokes

The Smoke on the Water BBQ Contest in Thomaston has a long history as one of the top BBQ contests in the state. This year the contest was sanctioned by the Georgia Barbecue Association (GBA) for the first time. Taking the traditional plunge into the lake as Grand Champions was Holy Smokes. Gary & Dionn Lanton’s team finished a dominant season on the GBA circuit with the win.

Rescue Smokers, Pitmaster Robby Royal, also put the finishing touches on a soild season by taking the Reserve Grand Championship.

1st Place Loin – Hootie Q

In the Pork Loin preliminary round Just Blowing Smoke and Hootie Q both recorded perfect 600 scores. They were joined in the Finals round by 92 BBQ/Assassin Smokers. Hootie Q had the top score in Finals to win the category. 92 BBQ/Assassin Smokers came in 2nd with Just Blowing Smoke finishing in 3rd place

In Pulled Pork all three finalists had perfect 600 scores in the preliminaries. After the final round, Holy Smokes took 1st place, Daddy O’s BBQ took 2nd and Flint River Cookers placed third.

1st Place Ribs – Raging Smoke BBQ

The Ribs category was extremely close as 3 teams tied for the 3rd and final spot in the Finals round. After the tiebreakers were run, Raging Smoke BBQ edged out Rescue Smokers & The Fat Boys of Tenneson Nissan for the spot in the Finals. Raging Smoke won the Finals round and captured 1st place, 92 BBQ/Assassin Smokers had a perfect 600 score in preliminaries but finished 2nd. Just Smoke N Around captured 3rd place.

In the Brisket ancillary, Rescue Smokers lead the way. Captain Jack’s Freedom BBQ Team was runner up with Wright on Q in 3rd place.

Holy Smokes Pulls Out Win at BBQ & Brews – Cartersville

Grand Champion – Holy Smokes

Cartersville – The Georgia Barbecue Association (GBA) officials had to go to the tiebreaker system to determine the Grand Champion at the Cartersville BBQ & Brews festival. Southern Hogs Loin entry and Holy Smokes Ribs entry both totaled a 597.5 final round score. On the first level tiebreaker, Taste, Holy Smokes received four 10’s compared to three received by Southern Hogs gave the edge to Gary & Dionn Lanton of Holy Smokes.

Reserve Champion – Southern Hogs

Southern Hogs, Matt & Donna Sapp, took the Reserve Grand Championship.

First Place Pulled Pork – Swine Dining GA

Following Southern Hogs winning Loin entry was Pop N Chubby BBQ in 2nd place & Rub Shakers Que in 3rd place. Swine Dining GA, Pitmaster Anthony Mullins, won the Pulled Pork category. Holy Smokes claimed 2nd with We Want Que taking third. Holy Smokes first place Ribs topped the runner-up Lang BBQ Smokers. Third place went to Captain Jack’s Freedom BBQ Team.

Napalm Sticks for Pigs

In the Cooking for Fun Division, Napalm Sticks to Pigs won both the Pulled Pork & Ribs categories. O Holy Knight BBQ took 2nd in Ribs & 3rd in Pulled Pork. VPQ was runner-up in Pulled Pork. If You Smoke It, They Will Come placed 3rd in Ribs. Swine Dining GA won the Brisket ancillary contest with a perfect 600 score.

The GBA congratulates the BBQ & Brews crew for putting on an outstanding first contest in Cartersville.
