Two New GBA Events Announced

Two New Contests Announced — The Georgia Barbecue Association is proud to announce two new events on its competition calendar.

The “GBA is Goin’ Coastal” cookoff will be held on beautiful Fernandina Beach at Central Park on June 8-9, 2012.  For the first time ever, the GBA is crossing the border and heading to the Sunshine State. The City of Fernandina Beach and the Recreation Dept. invite all GBA members to come be a part of this historic event.  Please see the Contest Page for cook team application.

The GBA is returning to Hawkinsville in the fall on 2012 for the Hawkinsville Harvest Fest — Pigs & Produce on October 26-27, 2012.  The Association is proud to back in this great city and is looking forward to another outstanding contest. Details and applications will be posted soon on the Contest page.

Judge Training Class set for Perry

Perry, GA – The Pigs and Wings BBQ Competition announces they will sponsor a Georgia Barbecue Association (GBA)  juges training class on Saturday, Feburary 18, 2012 at the airport in Perry, GA. Sign in will begin at 2:30 PM with the class starting at 3:00 PM.  The fee for the class is $15.00 per person plus GBA membership of $35 per person or $50 per family.  Those who are already GBA members who wish to take the class will only pay the $15.00 class fee.

Upon completion of the class, trainees will able to judge in the Pigs and Wings cookoff the following weekend as well as all other GBA sanctioned cookoffs.  After judging in two (2) contests during the year, new judges will be fully certified and be issued an official GBA judge ID badge.

32 New Judges Trained at Pierce Co.

Blackshear, GA –  Thirty two (32) BBQ enthusiasts took part in a judge training class on January 28 in anticipation of the Pierce Co. Pig Pickin’ in two weeks  — Feburary 10-11, 2012.

 In addition to the class, the Pierce Co. Development Authority also held a backyard contest. Before the contest, Buster Davis of Smoking AJs competition team held a training session on building competition boxes for the backyard cook teams.
