Cookin’ with Stump.com Near Perfection at Plains Pig Pickin’

 Walter “Stump” McDowell of Cookin’ With Stump.com finaled in all three categories at the Plains Pig Pickin’ 2013 then scored a near perfect 599.7 in the Loin Finals to claim the Grand Championship.  Former President Jimmy Carter presented the trophy to all the winners in his hometown event.

Following Stump in Pork Loin, Holy Smoke, LLC claimed second place in their first GBA competition. Third place went to Git R Smoked. Bubba Grills finished in fourth place. Rescue Smokers rounded out the top five.

Git R Smoked, Terry McKay pitmaster, made the trip up from south Florida to give the GBA a try & made finals in Loin & Ribs to claim the Reserve Grand Championship.

Big Moe Cason & Ponderosa BBQ out of Iowa made an even longer drive to check out the GBA competition. Two finals and a win in Pulled Pork made the trip worthwhile. Rescue Smokers took second place honors in Pulled Pork. Cookin’ with Stump.com laid claim to third place.  Git R Smoked and Anarque finished fourth & fifth respectively.

Git R Smoked topped the Ribs category with Ponderosa BBQ in second and  Cookin’ With Stump.com in third. Bethel Smokers missed finals in Ribs by 0.1 of a point and finished fourth. Aunt Mary’s BBQ Brigade edged out Rescue Smokers for fifth place by 0.3 of a point.

Holy Smokes Takes Title at Piece Co. Pig Pickin’

Grand Champion Holy Smokes

Blackshear, GA – Can you smell what Holy Smokes is cooking?  At the Pierce Co. Pig Pickin’, it smelled like perfection as Gary & Dionn Lanton tallied a perfect 600 score in Pork Loin Finals to claim the Grand Championship & the unique title belt trophy.   D.W.’s Kountry Cookers and Jack’s New South tied for the highest cumulative score from the preliminary rounds.  The teams were still tied after the first tiebreaker, the total of taste scores from the three categories. On the second tiebreaker, total of overall impression scores, D.W.’s Kountry Cookers had a 1 point advantage and took home the Reserve Grand Championship.

The perfect 600 score gave Holy Smokes first in Pork Loin. D.W.’s Kountry Cookers came in second. Holy Smokers & Jack’s New South finished third & fourth respectively. Sauced Hogs Smoke Shack edged out The Pampered Pig for fifth place after going to the third tiebreaker, the most number of 10′s awarded in the category.

In Pork, D.W.’s Kountry Cookers tallied a near perfect 599.1 score to capture the first place trophy. Jack’s New South was second with Smokin’ AJ’s in third. The Pampered Pig, cooking in their first GBA contest , continued their strong showing claiming fourth place.  There was also a tie for fifth place in Pork with Fat Boys Smoking BBQ edging out Sauced Hog Smoke Shack on the second tiebreaker.

Jack’s New South also had a near perfect score of 599.1 to win the Ribs category with Rescue Smokers as runner-up. Bethel Smokers, D.W.s Kountry Cookers & Sunset Smokers rounded out the top five.

Rescue Smokers Earned Berth in Memphis in May

Rescue Smokers took 2nd place in whole hog at the Big Pig Jig in Vienna GA.  The team effort included Robby & Stephanie Royal and Raymond & Amy Poore along with Patrick Poore, Rocky Stubblefield, Dan Surles, Jeremy Justice and Gary & Dionn Lanton.  The team earned the Memphis in May berth to represent the Big Pig Jig on the pass down from Grand Champion Jack’s Old South.

State Championship goes to Smokin’ Willy’s Squealers at Hambone Jam

State Champions Smokin' Willy's Squealers

The Comsouth Hambone Jam Grand Champion and the GBA State Champion for 2011-2012 went to Smokin’ Willy’s Squealers, Carl & Mary Williams of Barney, GA.  D.W.’s Kountry Cookers claimed the Comsouth Hambone Jam Reserve Grand Championship and the GBA Reserve State Championship with the highest overall cumulative preliminary scores. Rounding out the Top 5 in the Reserve scoring were Bubba Grills, Sunset Smokers, Jack’s New South and Rescue Smokers.

Jack’s New South claimed the State Championship in Pork Loin. Smarr Cooking Crew took second place with Holy Smokes in third. D.W.’s Kountry Cookers came in fourth place. Bubba Grills edged out 57 Smokehouse for fifth place by just a tenth of a point.  The State Championship in Pulled Pork went to Bubba Grills with Rescue Smokers as runner-up. Sunset Smokers captured third place just ahead of Jack’s New South in fourth and Smokin’ Willy’s Squealers in fifth place.  The best Ribs in the state went to Smokin Willy’s Squealers. D.W.’s Kounty Cookers took home second place with Pig Punishers in third place. Jethro’s Cooking Crew and Sauced Hogs Smoke Shack were fourth and fifth respectively.

Holy Smokes Claims 2010-2011 Team of the Year

The Top 10 teams for the 2010-2011 and Team of the Year are awarded each year at the ComSouth Hambone Jam in Fort Valley. The Top 10 teams in the GBA receive an invitation to the National Barbecue Festival’s Best of the Best competition in Waycross on time change weekend.
