GBA Teams Fare Well at National BBQ Festival

The top ten teams in the season long points chase earn invitations to the Best of the Best cookoff at the National BBQ Festival in Waycross where they face off against the top ten teams from the other major sanctioning organizations plus the grand champions from NBF qualifying events. Most of the teams also compete in the Smokin’ in the Swamp Open contest.  Teams from the GBA did quite well in both events.  Jack’s New South finished in the top 10 overall in the Best of the Best to earn a automatic invitation to next year’s event and also won Reserve Grand Champion in the Best of the Best People’s Choice contest.

Grand Champion for the Best of the Best was B & T Cook Team — Bill & Teresa Tanner of Thomasville.

State Championship goes to Smokin’ Willy’s Squealers at Hambone Jam

State Champions Smokin' Willy's Squealers

The Comsouth Hambone Jam Grand Champion and the GBA State Champion for 2011-2012 went to Smokin’ Willy’s Squealers, Carl & Mary Williams of Barney, GA.  D.W.’s Kountry Cookers claimed the Comsouth Hambone Jam Reserve Grand Championship and the GBA Reserve State Championship with the highest overall cumulative preliminary scores. Rounding out the Top 5 in the Reserve scoring were Bubba Grills, Sunset Smokers, Jack’s New South and Rescue Smokers.

Reserve Grand Champions D.W.'s Kountry Cookers

Jack’s New South claimed the State Championship in Pork Loin. Smarr Cooking Crew took second place with Holy Smokes in third. D.W.’s Kountry Cookers came in fourth place. Bubba Grills edged out 57 Smokehouse for fifth place by just a tenth of a point.  The State Championship in Pulled Pork went to Bubba Grills with Rescue Smokers as runner-up. Sunset Smokers captured third place just ahead of Jack’s New South in fourth and Smokin’ Willy’s Squealers in fifth place.  The best Ribs in the state went to Smokin Willy’s Squealers. D.W.’s Kounty Cookers took home second place with Pig Punishers in third place. Jethro’s Cooking Crew and Sauced Hogs Smoke Shack were fourth and fifth respectively.

Holy Smokes Claims 2010-2011 Team of the Year

The Top 10 teams for the 2010-2011 and Team of the Year are awarded each year at the ComSouth Hambone Jam in Fort Valley. The Top 10 teams in the GBA receive an invitation to the National Barbecue Festival’s Best of the Best competition in Waycross on time change weekend.

Holy Smokes with 5 Grand Championships and 8 category wins took Team of the Year honors and was presented a new “Baby” by TOTY sponsor Stump’s Smokers.  Rounding out the Top 10 were
